Why are more RV owners choosing pop-up roof tents?
When did this journey start?
Back in October 2025. That's when a premium Australian Campervan brand first reached out. They have a solid presence in the local caravan market. This time, they wanted to launch something new: a pop-up roof tent system designed specifically for van conversions and RV modifications.
Think of it as an extension of their existing business. And they wanted to get it right from day one.
What did they ask for?
The client was extremely particular about every single dimension of the pop-up tent-how it fits perfectly on van roofs, how it seals when closed, how much headroom it provides when open. No vague specs. No "close enough." For a high-end brand entering a competitive space, precision isn't optional.
Our project manager Teo led the entire development process from initial design to final order.
What did it take to get there?
Three rounds of sampling.
Each round involved refining CAD drawings, and re-checking measurements against the client's specific RV models. Teo coordinated everything-engineering, production, quality checks-making sure every sample moved the needle closer to what the client needed.
By April 2026, after months of back-and-forth and samples, the client signed their first bulk order.
That's when we knew: their pop-up roof tent product was officially ready for the market.
Why does this matter for the Australian market?
Here's where the trend comes in. Van life isn't a fad in Australia-it's a booming lifestyle. The country's recreational vehicle market was valued at AUD 16.95 billion in 2025 and is projected to hit AUD 34.29 billion by 2034, growing at a CAGR of 7.30% (data by "research and markets"). Caravanning is now embraced by younger generations, with families accounting for 31% of total caravan trips, making them the largest market segment.
For pop-top roof tents specifically? Australia's import trend for rooftop tents grew 10.33% in 2024 alone, with a CAGR of 8.16% from 2020 to 2024 (data by "6W research"). More people are modifying their RVs and campervans to get that extra headroom and sleeping space without sacrificing drivability.
Our client saw that gap early. And with our help on engineering and sampling, they're now in a position to capture it.
